Description:
Obverse
The coin is dedicated to the Ostrozkyi family, a mighty princely family, which originates from the Volyn offshoot of Monomakhs and Ruericks. For centuries this family has been a symbol of patriotism and devotion to Ukraine. Representatives of this family were great admirers and patrons of education, science and art in Ukraine, founders of the Ostroh (1578) academy, the first institution of higher learning in the Eastern Europe by which a printing house was built
On the coin obverse within the frame of a conventionalized ornament, there is depicted the Holy Mother icon from the St. Elias church in the town of Dubno gifted by the prince Vasyl Konstiantyn, above which there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine and semicircular inscriptions: УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) (above), ДЕСЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (10 Hryvnias) (beneath). On the icon both sides there are: the coin mintage year - 2004 (left), the logotype of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine, Ag 925, designation of metal and 31,1, its weight in fineness (right).
Reverse
On the coin reverse there are portraits of some bright members of the Ostrozkyi family: prince Konstiantyn (1460 - 1530), prince Vasyl Konstiantyn (1526 - 1608) and princess Elisabeth (Halshka) (1575 - 1642); above there is the semicircular inscription: РОДИНА ОСТРОЗЬКИХ (The Ostrozkyi Family), beneath - the Ostrozkyi family emblem, on either side of which there are the dates: XIV ст.
