NOTE KM#220.3: The coins struck in Philadelphia and San Francisco have a serif on the “4” of the date; the Lima and London coins do not.
NOTE KM#220.4: Dates 1941-44 have thick flat-top "4" without serifs. 1945 has narrow 4 like KM#220.5.
NOTE 220.5: 1942, 1944 AP, and all 1945-
49 have narrow 4 without serif on crossbar. 1944 without AP has flattop "4" like KM#220.4. Engraver's initials AP appear on wreath stems of some 1944-45, all 1946 and some 1947 coins. Varieties exist, including narrow and wide dates for 1956 and 1961 issues.
