Leandro Gomez (at this moment Major Colonel) leaded the defense of Paysandu city, which was under siege for nearly 1 year; finally, was taken by assault on 02/01/1865, about 700 men was captured, and Gomez was immediately executed. Was promoted to General post mortem.
Originally, there was struck 3,000 coins, but they were stolen during trip from Mexico to Miami; they were never recovered. Therefore, later were struck 6,000 more coins.
